Reds lucky to have Cordero

Cincinnati Reds closer Francisco Cordero said he might have taken a below-market deal to stay in Milwaukee, had the Brewers made an offer before the 2007 season. Cordero, in Milwaukee on Tuesday for the first of 18 meetings this season, got a four-year, $46 million contract with the Reds, just over the $42 million the Brewers had offered for the same term this past offseason.

The Florida Panthers and Buffalo Sabres are both in need of wins as they chase playoff spots in the Eastern Conference. So there was a lot at stake going into Sunday night's game. But the Panther's Richard Zednik's injury changed all that. Blood gushed from Zednik's neck after he was hurt midway through the third period of Buffalo's 5-3 victory, creating a frightening moment that delayed the game for about 15 minutes.
