If you are a Kevin Smith/Judd Apatow movie fanatic, “Zack and Miri Make a Porno” is the movie for you.
Looking back on the film, there are similarities to the two director’s philosophies in filmmaking. Smith likes crude and gruesome comedy, like the donkey in “Clerks II.” Apatow is more of finding normalcy in human conflicts. I do feel that Smith went after doing a film in the light of Apatow’s recent works.
Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks play Zack and Miri, two high school friends who share an apartment in Pittsburgh. When it comes time for the electric and water bills to be paid and Zack has no money, the apartment loses power.
With no cash or water to their names, Zack and Miri must decide how to generate some money.
Seeing Justin Long pull off a gay-porn actor in the film with Brandon Roth, “Superman,” was one of the funniest moments in the movie.
As the movie drags on, Zack and Miri begin to think they are in love with each other, but don’t completely realize their love for each other until the two were having sex in front of the camera, after being friends since grade school.
With Jason Mewes and Jeff Anderson in the film, the film gives the presence of “Clerks,” one of Smith’s most famous films.
The movie does have similarities to that comedy involved that may make the movie seem mundane from seeing other movies of Smith or Apatow.
If you are looking for a chance to see porn in the local theater, “Zack and Miri” gets pretty close to having a full-on sex scene.
“Zack and Miri Make a Porno” is rated R for nudity and sexual interactions. It runs one hour and 41 minutes.
