NKU set the tone early in their 63-44 win over IU Indy. Five minutes into the game, a layup by Mya Meredeth sparked a 21-0 run for the Norse to give them the comfortable 25-4 lead, while the Jaguars went almost 14 minutes without scoring a point.
At halftime, NKU led 30-8, the fewest points allowed by the Norse in a half since 2017. IU Indy improved offensively late, as they shot 8-15 (53.3%) in the fourth quarter. But the deficit was too large to overcome.
NKU’s defense fueled the win, holding IU Indy without a made field goal for 21 minutes.
For just the fourth time in program history, NKU held the Jaguars to zero made three-pointers all night as the Jaguars went 0-15 from deep.
Despite the impressive defensive performance, the Norse shot just 4-22 (18.2%) from beyond the arc and 13-22 (59.1%) from the free-throw line.
While NKU did force 21 turnovers, they also struggled to contain the ball, turning it over 24 times. In three of the last five games, the Norse have turned the ball over at least 20 times.
Karina Bystry led the Norse in scoring with 16 points, shooting 5-12 from the floor.
Maddie Moody had the best game of her college career tonight. She posted her second double-double of the season with 15 points and a career high 15 rebounds. While adding a career-high four assists.
“Proud of our team tonight,” Head Coach Jeff Hans said.
“The way we responded to IU Indy, the pressure they bring and the way they defend. We could have went a couple different ways, but I thought we were pretty resilient in how we handled it, and it was led by our defense,” Hans said.
