After being down 2-0, the Norse fought, forcing a fifth set. The game sits at 14-13 in NKU’s favor after RMU picked up two quick points.
RMU served the ball, Libero Lucy Cluxton popped up the ball, passing it to setter Abby Pickard. She set the ball up for Ava Hoying as she flew through the air.
She smacked the ball, and it flew right toward the RMU side. The ball is went straight for the floor. “Boom”, it slams.
The team yells as the crowd goes wild. The Norse came back from being down 2-0, winning the set 15-13 and winning the game 3-2. While clinching the top spot in the Horizon League.
In sets one and two, it was all RMU, winning both 25-21. But after going back to the locker room, NKU kicked it into a different gear, winning set three 25-11. In the fourth set, both teams battled, trading points back and forth. Late into that set, RMU led 26-25, but NKU closed it out, getting three straight points, forcing set five. The fifth set wasn’t any different than the previous ones, coming down to the wire as NKU got it done.
Allison Risley and Sydney Bray were dynamic on the offensive end. Risley had a match-high 20 kills and added 18 digs for a double-double. She won the fourth set with a monster kill to force set five.
Bray also posted a double-double with 18 kills and 21 digs. She was also huge on the defensive end, posting 7 blocks. She came up huge in the fifth set, having multiple huge hits and defensive plays.
Hoying stared in the fifth set, having three huge kills to close out the game for the victory.
Pickard was the leader of the attack with 55 assists and had the game-winning assist to Hoyings. She also contributed 19 digs.
Cluxton had 20 digs and added three service aces.
Ivey Stocks was a brick wall at the net, posting eight block assists and one solo block.
The women led in most major statistical categories, even with an unusual error-filled night. They had 67 kills, seven aces, 14 blocks, 65 assists and a hit percentage of.189. NKU had a total of 93 digs compared to RMU’s 98.
