Women’s soccer extended their unbeaten streak at home with a scoreless draw against Cleveland State.
Northern Kentucky and Cleveland State both held tight defenses in the first half to prevent any early scoring chances, with the Norse recording just two shots, with one on goal, while the Vikings had three shots, two on goal.
Cleveland State’s defense loosened up in the second half as the Norse were able to put up 10 shots, compared to the Vikings six. Overall, the Norse won the shot battle 12-9.
NKU held the advantage in corner kicks 11-1. But Cleveland State wouldn’t allow them to turn those into scoring chances.
While Northern Kentucky was unable to find the back of the net, Lilly Yordy and Meghan Belrose continued to stand out on offense as they both led the Norse with three shots each.
Yordy is currently ranked third in the Horizon League in shots (37) and second in the league in shots on goal (18).
Goalkeeper Megan Gessner played a huge role in the Norse’s defense with five crucial saves as the match ended in a 0-0 draw.
The Norse remain in second place in the Horizon League. They sit 7-2-5 overall and 4-1-1 in league play.
Northern Kentucky travels to Purdue Fort Wayne to take on the Mastodons next Thursday on ESPN+.
