Baseball fell to No. 12 ranked Tennessee 7-5. Bobby Bartlett got the start for the Norse, throwing an inning plus and allowing three runs on three hits and three walks, striking out three batters. Griffin Howell threw three scoreless innings against the defending national champions. Gerald Hanson recorded a pair of outs. Ryan Pehrson finished off the seventh without allowing a run. Carson French threw a perfect eighth with a strikeout. To the bats: Logen Devenport notched the lone multi-hit game for the Norse, finishing 3-4 with two doubles, a walk and an RBI. Devenport stole two bases as well. Gabe Miranda finished 1-5 with a two-run single. Tyler Shaneyfelt finished 0-3, but drew two walks and had an RBI.
Friday, May 2
Softball played a doubleheader against Youngstown State, picking up one game. First game 7-3 win: The Norse combined for eight total hits and three walks. Olivia Pastin went 3-4 with a walk-off grand slam and a career-high five RBI. Stella Wulker continued her incredible stretch as she went 2-3 with a pair of singles, one run and one RBI. Jena Rhoads finished 2-4 with two runs scored. In the circle, Brooklyn Ballis threw six innings of three-run ball with three strikeouts. Alicia Flores came in in the seventh and secured the win, her eighth of the season. Second game, 5-1 loss: NKU only got two hits and two walks in this game. Olivia Pastin scored the lone run in the loss. Alicia Flores took the loss, giving up five runs on five hits. Kyndall Ford came in for her and threw three scoreless innings.
Baseball lost in extra innings against Milwaukee, 5-4. Conner Linn got the start for the Norse, throwing 5.2 innings. Linn struck out six while allowing only three runs. Shawn Parnell threw 3.1 innings while allowing only one run, striking out six. To the offensive: Tyler Shaneyfelt finished 2-4 with a pair of walks and a double. Logen Devenport had a pair of hits, scored a run and drew three walks. Sam Bond finished 2-3 with a walk. Jake Paulick doubled as part of a 2-5, two-RBI day.
Saturday, May 3
Baseball won against Milwaukee in another extra innings battle, 10-6. Aaron Boster threw 5.2 innings of one-run ball, shutting down the Panther offense as he allowed just one hit and struck out six batters. Boster was pulled after his pitch count hit 102 in the sixth. Logan Wilson relieved Boster in the sixth. To the bats: Northern Kentucky’s top three hitters combined for four doubles in the first three innings, with the Norse totaling 11 hits on the day. Logen Devenport went 2-5 with two doubles, one RBI and two runs scored. Gabe Miranda went 2-6 with three RBI, three runs scored and a double. Tyler Shaneyfelt batted 2-6 with two runs scored and a double. Josh Williams hit 2-6 with a pair of runs scored. Jake Paulick drove in three runs on the day, including a two-run triple in the twelfth and walked three times.
Sunday, May 4
Baseball picks up another win against Milwaukee, 6-5. It was a big pitching day for the Norse, with Bobby Bartlett getting the start and throwing three innings. Bartlett allowed two runs and struck out four batters. Noah Sackenheim provided 1.2 innings of scoreless work with a strikeout. Gerald Hanson got the win, providing two innings of work while only allowing one run. Hanson struck out three. Ryan Pehrson entered in the ninth with the bases loaded, no outs and NKU leading by two. Pehrson forced a double play ball for the first two outs of the frame and a ground out to end the game. To the offense: Logen Devenport was the lone Norse with two hits on the day, finishing 2-4 with a stolen base. Tyler Shaneyfelt had a hit, scored a run and stole a base in the win. Josh Williams drew three walks and plated a run with a bunt single. Marcus Harrison finished 1-3 with a two-run single and a sac fly, leading NKU in RBI with three. Sam Bond pinch hit for Jake Altman in the eighth and doubled home two runs to give NKU its late lead.
