The NKU women’s soccer team moved to 4-4 on the season Friday with a 4-0 route of Green Bay. The game was the first Horizon League game of the season.

“Coming off a very emotional win at Vanderbilt last Sunday I thought our team showed a lot of maturity in how we prepared for our first Horizon League contest both from a physical and mental standpoint,” Head Coach Bob Sheehan said. “We started the game as the aggressors and wanted to set the tone early and that’s exactly what our players did.”

The offensive struggles the NKU women’s soccer team showed at the beginning of the season have been quickly forgotten. The Norse took 11 shots on goal against the Green Bay defense.

The dynamic duo of Jessica Frey and Macy Hamblin finally asserted themselves in this game, which each player scoring a pair of goals. Sami Rutowski has continued to excel when she moves to the midfield on corner kicks. The senior defender added two more assists to her stats sheet, bringing her season total to four.

“It’s an exciting win because it’s our first conference game and the entire team played really well,” Hamblin said. “Coming off a big win, we didn’t let that get in our head. We went in with the mindset that any team can win on any given day, and did what we needed to do.”

Emily Lohmann continues to excel in the goal, saving two shots in this game and recording her third shutout of the season.

The Norse scored all four of their goals in the first half of the game. Hamblin scored the first two goals, with her first coming in the 6th minute and her second shot in the 14th. Frey then followed with her goals, one in the 39th minute and the last just before the halftime whistle at the 44th minute.

The Norse will be at home Sunday for their match against Robert Morris University. NKU fell to Robert Morris in their matchup last season.
