The NKU men’s soccer team played to a tie against Eastern Illinois University, ending the game 1-1 after two overtime periods.

The start of the game was delayed due to in-climate weather and play was stopped several more times due to lightning in the area.

It was an offensive struggle for both teams once they began play. The two teams combined for only four shots on goal, including both overtimes, and combined for only 14 total shots. The two teams were whistled for 31 fouls total during the game.

Christian Carey began the game in goal for the Norse making two saves and allowing one goal in the first half. Jared Leyland took over the goal in the second half, but did not face a shot on goal from EIU.

Eastern Illinois took the lead with 20 seconds left in the first half, when Davis Wegmann scored on a penalty kick.

The Norse responded in the second half, when Campbell Morris scored a one touch goal off an assist from Nick Perez, tying the game at one.

The Norse will take the field again on Sunday at 2 p.m., when they welcome University of Evansville to the NKU Soccer Stadium.
