VALPARAISO, Indiana — Leading by just six at halftime, the NKU women’s basketball team stormed out of the locker room Saturday, burying Valparaiso in the third quarter on the way to a 68-50 win.

The win completes a four-game sweep of the Norse’s four-game road trip.

NKU put the game out of reach in the third. The Norse started by scoring the first 16 points of the third to go up 46-24 with 6:14 left.

After a Valparaiso basket, the Norse went on an 11-1 run over the next 3:53 to expand the lead to 57-27 with 2:02 left in the third.

In all, Northern Kentucky outscored Valparaiso 27-7 in the third quarter.

Christine Roush led the Norse with 19 points. Kasey Uetrecht had 14 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Courtney Roush added 12 points.

Jasmyn Walker led Valpo with 12 points and 6 rebounds.

The Norse were very careful with the basketball, committing only seven turnovers in the entire game. Valpo had 13 turnovers and shot just 33 percent from the floor.

NKU improved to 14-8 overall and 6-5 in the Horizon League. This put the Norse in a tie for fifth in the conference, just a half-game behind Milwaukee for fourth.

With the four-game road trip now completed, the Norse return to BB&T Arena for three straight Horizon League contests.

The homestand opens 7 p.m. Saturday against Wright State, who is currently second in the league standings.

According to a release by NKU Athletics, Saturday’s game will be the “Box Out Cancer” game. Fans are encouraged to wear pink as NKU will be raising money for the American Cancer Society.

The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.
