NKU senior Courtney Roush (12) was named Horizon League player of the week by the conference, becoming the first NKU women’s player to receive the honor.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Roush twins provided just about all the offense the NKU women’s basketball team needed Thursday night in an 83-51 beatdown of Cleveland State.

Christine Roush led all scorers with 26 points. Her twin sister, Courtney, scored a career-high 22 points. The two combined to finish just three points shy of the Viking team total.

NKU actually got off to a bit of a slow start. Cleveland State led 20-14 after one quarter.

It was all Norse from that point forward.

The Norse went on a 15-1 run to take a 27-21 lead with 6:09 left in the second. The Vikings cut the deficit to 29-28 with 4:11 remaining. Then they did not score for 6:32.

During that stretch, NKU outscored CSU 15-0 to take a 44-28 lead with 7:39 left in the third. The scoring onslaught continued for the Norse, as the ended the third quarter on a 17-5 run.

In total, the Norse outscored the Vikings 30-11 in the third to take a 66-39 lead going to the fourth. They cruised through the fourth quarter to break a three-game losing streak.

In addition to the big night for the Roush sisters, Kelley Wiegman had 11 points while Kasey Uetrecht had 10. NKU (11-8, 3-5 in Horizon League) shared the ball well, picking up 19 assists on 25 field goals.

Ashanti Abshaw led Cleveland State (4-14, 1-7) with 13 points and 8 rebounds. Cleveland State shot just 30.4 percent from the floor while Northern Kentucky shot 45.5 percent.

NKU will play the second of four straight Horizon League road games 1 p.m. Saturday at Youngstown State. The game will be televised on ESPN3.
