DAYTON, Ohio — A 24-8 first quarter deficit proved to be too much for Northern Kentucky to overcome Saturday, as the Norse women lost to Wright State 66-61.

NKU started the fourth quarter down 9, 54-45. Baskets by Christine Roush and Molly Glick, and a pair of free throws by Kasey Uetrecht pulled the Norse within 54-51 with 8:28 remaining.

Kim Demmings answered for Wright State with a three, putting the Raiders up 6, 57-51, with 6:06 remaining.

On three occasions in the next four minutes, the Norse got the Wright State lead down to a single point. Roush’s two free throws with 2:09 remaining pulled NKU within 62-61.

Northern Kentucky (9-5, 1-2 in Horizon League) had its chances to take the lead. Glick missed a three with 1:52 remaining. Following a Raider turnover, Roush had a shot miss with 91 seconds left.

Following a Riche van der Keijl free throw, Glick had another look from long range, but missed with 1:04 remaining. Antania Hayes answered with a layup at the other end for Wright State, stopping the NKU rally.

Roush led NKU with 16 points. Shar’Rae Davis added 11 points. Uetrecht had 8 points and a career-high 14 rebounds.

Demmings led Wright State (13-3, 3-0) with 22 points and 8 rebounds. Van der Keijl added 16 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocked shots.

After allowing 44 points in the first half, the NKU defense tightened in the second half. Wright State scored just 22 points after the break, shooting just 24.2 percent.

However, Wright State dominated on the glass, outrebounding the Norse 58-42 including 19-11 in offensive rebounds.

The Norse continue a three-game road trip 7 p.m. Thursday at Oakland.
