Oakland defeats Norse volleyball in three sets

Oakland’s volleyball team pulled out two tough sets Friday night on the way to a straight-set win over Northern Kentucky at Regents Hall.

The opening two sets were incredibly tight. Oakland (11-10, 5-2 in Horizon League) pulled out the opening set 31-29. The second set also went to Oakland, 26-24.

The third set was not as close, as Oakland closed out the match by winning the set 25-15.

NKU (8-12, 3-5) was led by Haley Libs, who had 13 kills and nine digs. Kelly Turner had 11 kills. Taylor Snyder had a double-double with 34 assists and 10 digs. Mel Stewart led the Norse with 14 digs.

Melissa Deatsch led Oakland with 11 kills, while Sammy Condon had 10.

The Norse return to action this weekend for a pair of Horizon League road contests. They travel to Illinois-Chicago 8 p.m. Friday, before traveling to Valparaiso 5 p.m. Saturday.
