Portz shoots 66 to finish third at NKU Fall Classic

Men’s golfer Clayton Portz shot a 5-under 66 Monday at the NKU Fall Collegiate Classic. He finished tied for third individually, and the team finished fourth.

BATAVIA, Ohio — The NKU men’s golf team finished fourth Monday at the NKU Fall Classic at Elks Run Golf Club.

Clayton Portz shot a 5-under 66 to help the Norse move up to a fourth place finish. The senior finished with six birdies on the day. 

The Norse also got strong individual performances on Monday by Jacob Brinker (even-par 71), Logan Gamm (2-over 73) and Jacob Poore (2-over 73). Brinker finished tied for 17th while Gamm and Poore finished tied for 21st.

Jacob Jackson, Landon Osborne, Matt Wetherill and Byron Speach also competed for the Norse.

Morehead State won the team title, finishing 7-over par 859. NKU finished fourth with a 17-over 869. NKU’s B-team finished with a 934.

Wright State’s Ryan Winzler was tournament medalist, shooting 10-under 203 over the three rounds.

The men’s golf team returns to action Monday and Tuesday at the Cleveland State Invitational.
