NKU forward Diego Martinez scores the lone goal in the double overtime game. NKU defeated Stetson 1-0 in double overtime at NKU Soccer Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014.

DAYTON, Ohio — Diego Martinez’s golden goal in the 109th minute Tuesday gave the men’s soccer team its first-ever Horizon League victory, 1-0 over Wright State.

After possessing the ball near midfield, Martinez drove to the top of the box where he beat Raider keeper Tyler Blackmer for the game-winning goal.

AJ Fleak picked up his fourth shutout of the season, making eight saves. Wright State (6-2-0 overall, 1-1 Horizon League) outshot NKU (4-3-0, 1-0) 22-10, including 8-3 in shots on goal.

Wright State also took 15 corners to just three for the Norse.

Johannes Jansen led NKU with four shots, including two on goal.

After six shots in the first half, the Norse managed just two in the second half and one in the first overtime period. In the second overtime period, NKU managed just one shot, but it was Martinez’s shot that found the back of the net.

The Norse return to action 1 p.m. Saturday at Detroit. They will return home 7 p.m. Wednesday against Belmont. That game will be broadcast on ESPN3.
