Women’s tennis takes two singles crowns at GCCI

Danielle Donahue was the champion of flight four Saturday at the Greater Cincinnati Collegiate Invitational tennis tournament in Mason, Ohio.

MASON, Ohio — Two members of the NKU women’s tennis team won singles events Saturday at the Greater Cincinnati Collegiate Invitational at the Lindner Family Tennis Center and the Eastern Hills Indoor Tennis Club.

Danielle Donahue opened Saturday with a win over Morehead State’s Alek Savic in the semifinals of flight four. She won 6-2, 6-4. In the finals, Donahue defeated Xavier’s Zoe Manion 4-6, 6-3, [12-10].

Nicole Soutar started Saturday with a 7-6(3), 6-1 victory over Halli Roach of Valparaiso. She then defeated Dani Gryckiewicz of St. Francis in the flight five final, 6-1, 6-4.

Sierra Nellessen advanced to the finals of flight six before falling to Abby Roebker of Xavier, 6-3, 6-7, [10-3].

Sydney Power and Klara Skopac each advanced to consolation finals of their respective flights, but they were cancelled due to rain.

Skopac and Hailey Shanahan advanced to the semifinals of the first doubles flight, but they were defeated by Dayton 6-1.
