Maginley wins a pair of events at Greater Cincinnati Collegiate Invitational

NKU men’s tennis player Court Clark teamed with Jody Maginley to win flight two doubles Saturday at the Greater Cincinnati Collegiate Invitational.

MASON, Ohio — NKU’s tennis team had a strong weekend at the Greater Cincinnati Collegiate Invitational at the Lindner Family Tennis Center and Eastern Hills Indoor Tennis Club.

Senior Jody Maginley won flight two of the men’s singles. Saturday, he defeated Cameron Green of Furman 6-4, 3-6, [11-9] in the semifinals. In the final, he defeated Sven Kranz of Chicago 2-6, 7-6, [10-8].

Maginley and teammate Court Clark won flight two of the doubles as well. After wins over teams from Xavier, Dayton and Furman, they defeated a team from Chicago 6-4.

Mate Virag had a bye and won his first match of the tournament in flight one to advance to the semifinals. He was defeated by Adam Steryous of Furman 6-2, 6-2 in the semifinals. Steryous ended up winning the flight.

Blaine Carr also picked up a first-round victory over Ryan Massinople of Furman before falling to Fred Daum of Case Western Reserve.

NKU will return to action October 2-4 for the NKU Open. The tournament is open to the public. Anyone interested in entering the event can contact Coach Brian Nester at bpnester@fuse.net.
