Men’s golf team aspires to be in top 80 of conference

The three key players for the men’s golf team include Clayton Portz, Corey Richmond and Michael Schmidt, according to head golf head coach Daryl Landrum.

However, Landrum had trouble naming top players for the women’s team.

“The women’s team is just young,” Landrum said. “The top seven averages, six of them are freshmen at the moment.”

He said one of the biggest things for the women right now is learning to deal with their nerves.

As far as expectations go, Landrum has great hopes for both teams this season.

“From last season, I’d like for both teams to finish within the top five at some of the tournaments this spring,” Landrum said.

Landrum added that there are five tournaments within the Atlantic Sun Conference this year.

“The A-Sun is really good this year,” Landrum said. “There are six teams in the top 80 this year in golf. The big goal for us would be to finish in the top half of the A-Sun.”

The tournament that Landrum is most looking forward to is the Tennessee Tech Tournament in Sevierville, Tenn. because it will give both teams an idea of where they fit it the region for recruiting.
