Update: After a discussion with President Cady Short-Thompson, SGA President Collin Jarrell explained the purpose of the $250 fee towards NNH and Career Services at the April 20 SGA meeting. It will be used for additional staffing for NNH and Career Services, as well as expanding career prep and job search resources. Juniors and seniors will pay this fee because that is the typical time students have internships.
During the Student Government Association’s (SGA) weekly meeting on Monday, President Collin Jarrell announced that there is a possibility of a $250 one time payment fee towards the Norse Network Hub (NNH). Career Services falls under this category of the NNH.
The NNH is a place for students to get career guidance and open doors to employers eager to hire NKU students. For employers, they can find students and graduates with the skills they need, build partnerships across programs and departments and address regional workforce challenges with fresh talent.
Alumni can also help mentor students, hire NKU students for their organization and reconnect with the campus community.
The only students who will be charged this fee are juniors and seniors. For seniors graduating in December, they would still be required to pay the full $250 instead of $125.
According to Jarrell, this fee is still in the works to be submitted to the Board of Regents for approval in June. He has reached out to the Vice President of Administration and Chief Financial Officer Chris Calvert for further explanation and is awaiting a response.
At the Board of Regents meeting in June, it will be decided whether or not this fee will be put into effect.
This is a developing story. The Northerner will continue to report on further developments regarding the possible student fee as they occur.
