On Wednesday, President Donald Trump will visit Thermo Fisher Scientific, a pharmaceutical and biotechnology company in Reading, Cincinnati, as part of the Trump administration’s plan to bring down prescription drug prices.
Trump will also be visiting Hebron, Kentucky, at the Verst Logistics Contract Packaging Facility at 1 p.m. It is unknown why Trump is visiting.
Verst Logistics is a Northern Kentucky-based company that works in packaging, warehousing and transportation.
White House spokesperson Liz Huston released a statement saying Trump will “tout that massively popular policy and the rest of his administration’s aggressive efforts to lower prices and make America more affordable.”
At Thermo Fisher Scientific, Trump will discuss his new federal government-run prescription drug website, TrumpRx.gov. This site, which launched in February, allows people to directly buy prescription drugs from manufacturers at a lower price.
This federally-hosted website is not a network where medications can be bought, but as a way to direct Americans to drug makers’ websites where they can make purchases.
The website’s launch is a part of a broader effort by the Trump administration to demonstrate that it is addressing rising costs.
Affordability has emerged as a political pressure point for Trump and his Republican allies ahead of the November midterm elections. Americans continue to worry about housing, food, utilities and other basic expenses.
It is unclear how much Trump will address topics beyond the economy, but the visit marks his first trip to the Greater Cincinnati region during his second term.
The event is listed as open to the public, but registration is required.
