UPDATE: Northern Kentucky University has extended its transition to remote operations through Tuesday, Jan. 27. The university will continue to operate under “Plan A,” keeping the physical campus closed while classes proceed remotely. Officials cited winter weather and expected road conditions as the primary reasons for the extended closure.
The university confirmed Monday afternoon that it will once again utilize “Plan A,” keeping the physical campus closed while shifting all instruction and administrative services to remote formats. The extension comes as local authorities struggle to clear secondary roads and the National Weather Service maintains a Wind Chill Warning for the area.
Northern Kentucky University has announced that it will transition to remote operations on Monday, Jan. 26, 2026, as a massive winter storm continues to blanket the region with a dangerous mix of heavy snow, ice and severe cold.
The university will operate under “Plan A”, meaning the physical campus is closed, but classes are not necessarily canceled. The decision follows a statewide State of Emergency declared by Governor Andy Beshear as the National Weather Service warns of significant snow accumulations and wind chills dropping as low as -25°F.
It is unclear if the campus will remain closed on Tuesday or if the university is
planning to reopen. Students were advised in the email to follow specific instructions from the course instructors on how classes will adjust to the remote day.
