As residents prepare for the snowstorm arriving this weekend, many people expect to be stuck inside their homes. But there are many people who might not have the shelter or heating that they need.
As the temperatures drop, homeless shelters are often the only resource for those in need, but many have certain hours they can come by to rest and get food.
Fortunately, in response to the weather, many shelters are keeping their doors open longer to accommodate more people.
The Northerner has compiled a list of shelters in Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati that are expanding their resources for the incoming storm:
ESNKY (Emergency Shelter of Northern Kentucky)
436 W. 13th St., Covington, KY 41011
ESNKY has transitioned to a 24-hour operation during dangerous conditions so people can stay inside all day. They also have a “No Turn Away” Policy, where, during severe winter weather, they work to accommodate everyone who arrives, sometimes utilizing chairs if all 68 beds are filled.
City Gospel Mission
1805 Dalton Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 54214
City Gospel Mission will ensure its kitchen is stocked for the increasing number of visitors. They can accommodate up to 76 people, offering warmth and shelter.
Welcome House of Northern Kentucky
133 E. 11th St., Covington, KY 41011
Welcome House is partnering with Urban Outreach, and they will be operating a temporary 24/7 Emergency Winter Shelter for up to 26 adults. Shelter guests can receive access to wraparound services including case management, medical care, food, counseling and more. People, pets and possessions are allowed. People do not have to line up for a bed each night and leave early in the morning. No drug and alcohol testing, criminal background checks, or income and “housing-readiness” to get in.
Fairhaven Rescue Mission
260 W Pike St, Covington, KY 41011
Fairhaven Rescue Mission will be providing overnight lodging, meals and clothing.
