Emily Sisk, a junior journalism major, will be serving as The Northerner’s next editor-in-chief for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Sisk, who currently serves as the managing editor of The Northerner, has been working for The Northerner since her arrival to NKU in fall 2021.

When Sisk arrived her freshman year at NKU, she didn’t waste any time getting involved with other on-campus organizations, such as Presidential Ambassadors, Baptist Campus Ministry (BCM) among others.

Sisk said that she’s most looking forward to working with other members and staff of The Northerner when she steps into the editor-in-chief role.

“I am most looking forward to getting to work with the amazing fellow students and seeing them really blossom into the role of a journalist,” Sisk said.

Sisk added that she’s hoping to amp up recruitment, developing the already existing monthly magazine and expanding The Northerner through multimedia projects.

“My plan is to really recruit new members to help us keep telling the stories for our campus,” Sisk said. “I’m also really excited to see how we can keep developing our monthly magazine. We have an awesome designer, photographers and reporters who do amazing work on the magazine every month, and I’m hoping to continue to expand that along with our multimedia presence—whether it’s through podcasts, broadcast, video, sports, gameplay coverage and even live updates.”

Oftentimes, you can find Sisk throughout many facets of campus meeting new people. She said that’s one of her favorite things about being a student journalist.

“My favorite part about being a student journalist is getting to walk around campus each day and saying hi to someone I would have never met if I hadn’t written a story about them,” Sisk said. “That’s why I want to be in this role—just to keep meeting people to keep telling their stories and sharing all the important news on our campus.”
