BREAKING: NKU to go tobacco free

The Northern Kentucky University Board of Regents voted today to transform the campus into a completely tobacco-free space. NKU will join the University of Kentucky and Morehead State University as one of Kentucky’s tobacco-free campuses and University of Louisville as a smoke-free campus.

The board voted unanimously without discussion or questions during the meeting after a presentation by Director of Wellness Karen Campbell during the joint finance and policy meeting this morning.

The transition to move to tobacco free will take at least 12 months and up to 18 months, according to President Geoff Mearns, after a campus task force is put into place.

The task force will be made up of subcommittees and work to address the needs of campus constituents, including students, faculty and staff.
