Baseball win doubleheader against Urbana

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. ‘- The Northern Kentucky University baseball team used solid relief pitching and timely hitting for a 3-1 win Tuesday to salvage a doubleheader split with Urbana University (13-12) after losing the first game 2-1 in 11 innings at the Bill Aker Baseball Complex.

Down 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth and with the help of two Blue Knights errors, Jason Cisper sent a pinch hit single through the right side of the Urbana defense to plate Brian Erie from second. Evan McDole’s sacrifice fly drove in Pat Muth from third with what proved to be the game winning run.

The Norse (15-10) would add an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth for the final 3-1 margin.

‘Urbana had a couple errors in the inning and that kind of gave us an opening,’ said Norse head coach Todd Asalon. ‘It was nice that Jason came off the bench and gets a clutch pinch hit, which was huge with him being a captain. You have to take advantage of mistakes and we got a couple errors back-to-back and we got the big hit to put them away.’
