Discounting science: “evolution just a theory?”

An Oct. 18 article contained the most misused phrase in the argument for evolution vs. creationism. The writer asked “Is evolution just a theory?” This implies that evolution is just a passing idea.

Dismissing something as just a theory shows a significant lack of knowledge of scientific terms and process. In the scientific world, to qualify as a theory, an idea (hypothesis), has undergone extensive examination and testing. In scientific thought, a theory is not the beginning of an idea, it is the confirmation of an idea. Whatever one choses to believe, one should at least learn enough science to use the terms accurately.
