Beattie named GLVC Player of the Week
Sophomore forward Steven Beattie was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week Sept. 2.
Beattie scored three goals in the 9-0 victory over Charleston Aug. 31.
On a team note, the Norse jumped up to No. 3 in the NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Rankings.
The Men trail only Lincoln Memorial and Midwestern State (Texas), last season’s semi-finalist.
Northern Kentucky University will face Carson Newman Sept. 5 at the Town ‘ Country Sports Complex in Wilder. The game starts at 7:30 p.m.
Women’s Soccer defeats Davis ‘ Elkins 5-1
NKU’s Women’s Soccer team came from behind to defeat the Davis ‘ Elkins College Senators 5-1 Aug. 29 in Athens, W. Va. The Norse are now 2-0 for the seventh time in eight seasons.
Senator’s sophomore forward Cole Dant scored off of an assist from freshman forward Cate Smith.
That didn’t stop the Norse, who came back to score five unanswered goals.
The tying goal came towards the end of the first half when freshman Kelly Snead took a pass from freshman Kelly Sullivan. Sullivan also had a goal later in the game.
The Norse’s game winning goal came from sophomore forward, Kendall Day, who notched two tallies in the game. Amanda Mason, a freshman midfielder, ended the scoring with an unassisted goal.
The NKU soccer teams will host their Alumni exhibition game, Sept. 5, at 5:30 p.m. at Town ‘ Country Sports Complex.
The Lady Norse will resume regular season action Sept. 7, at 6:00 p.m., when they host Findlay.
Cross-Country set for first race
The NKU Cross Country team will open it’s 2008 season at the 27th annual Queen City Invitational on Sept. 6 at A.J. Jolly Park in Alexandria, KY.
Both men and women, runners will face a 5k run, and the invitational is set to begin at 10 a.m.
Women’s Golf places fifth at Ferris State Invite
NKU’s Women’s Golf team wrapped up a four-day stretch of competition, finishing fifth in the Ferris State Invite on Aug. 31 and placing eighth in the Laker Fall Invitational, which concluded on Sept. 2.
NKU shot a 630 in the Ferris State Invite, shooting a 311 in the first round and a 319 in the second.
Alicia Stauffacher led the Norse, and shared ninth place in the invite, carding a 154 (74-80) followed by Lyndsay Bevill, who shot a 156 (77-79) to share 16th place.
In the Laker Fall Invitational, hosted by Grand Valley State University, the Norse carded a 646 (319-327) and finished the competition 70-over-par.
Charity Evans led the Norse, shooting a 156 (73-83) to finished 12-over-par and share 14th place, and Sofie Rasmussen finished in 27th, shooting a 161 (78-83).
The Norse aren’t set to compete again until the Screaming Eagle Invitational, which will be held Sept. 21-22 at Cambridge Golf Course in Evansville, Ind.
Norse to face Louisville Nov. 8
NKU announced that the tickets for the NKU/Louisville exhibition games will go on sale Sept. 8.
The first 1,400 students will recieve a free ticket with their student ID. Students can only get one ticket with each ID and can’t obtain tickets for other students. The ticket is valid for both games.
NKU student tickets will still be availabe at a reduced cost of $15.
The Bank of Kentucky Center box office is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
