The Northern Kentucky University Women’s Basketball team finished first in the Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division after defeating Lewis University 68-62 March 2.
The Norse finished 13-6 in the conference, tying Indianapolis. NKU, however, claimed first place based on their 2-0 record against Indy on the season.
“After losing the five seniors from last seasons team, these kids did a great job to win the GLVC East this year,” NKU Head Coach Nancy Winstel told the Sports Information Web site. “Angela Healy and Nicole Chiodi deserve a lot of credit for their leadership, and this group never quit.”
The leading scorers in the final regular season game against Lewis were Jessie Slack, who had 16 points, and Angela Healy, who had 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Next for NKU is the GLVC tournament and possibly the last women’s basketball game at Regents Hall. The Norse plays Southern Illinois at Edwardsville, a team that they defeated 75-67, Dec. 1. NKU potentially has three more games at Regents Hall, as long as it keeps winning and Drury loses its opening tournament game, the only team with a higher overall seed.
