SGA plans for second rally

During its meeting Feb. 25, the Student Government Association addressed the iCare rally Feb. 20 in Frankfurt, Ky., along with its plan to make a second trip by the end of the semester.

“I thought the rally in Frankfurt was extremely successful,” SGA President Alyse Bender said. “It was truly an inspiring feeling to see a couple hundred students from across the states rallying together as one for higher education.”

Bender added that Gov. Steve Beshear also addressed the students at the rally.

“It was the first time the governor had appeared in years to speak to students,” Bender said. “However, I would have like to have heard him say that higher education is his top priority and any additional revenue will go to higher education.”

Bender also said SGA is also planning to travel down to Frankfurt for a second rally, which she feels would “be extremely beneficial for Northern Kentucky University.”

Kelly Sirk, vice president of public relations for SGA, said a second trip would “show Frankfurt that NKU won’t go away and we care enough to follow through.”

Bender agreed with Sirk.

“One trip, one on-campus rally and one rally in Frankfurt isn’t enough,” she said.
