Community members can no longer have memberships at the Albright Health Center. It is only offered to students, alumni, faculty or staff.

“We really wanted to keep them if we could,” said Matt Brown, dean of students.

Brown said that the university can’t as the insurance that would cover it is too high

“We realized on the risk assessment that serving the community is not in the university’s mission,” he said.

The university did look into getting a general liability insurance policy, but Brown said the prices were astronomical to cover only about 150 people.

If someone were to get hurt in the Albright Health Center, NKU could only rely on the state for coverage.

Northern Kentucky University has negotiated a membership with Town and Country Sports and Health Club, where former members of the Albright Health Center would pay the same fee as they did on campus for one year.
