Cross country teams earn top spots at Dayton race

Northern Kentucky University Cross Country men took home the college division title during the Sept. 1 Dayton Flyer 5K, according to a release by NKU Athletics.

The men’s team earned a perfect score by having the top five runners in the college bracket. Adam Stoppelwerth, Matt Shoulta, Keith Knapp, Zach Koehler and Drew Harris all placed in the top five.

Stoppewerth, who is a senior, finished the race in 15:56, three seconds ahead of Shoulta.

The Women’s Cross Country team’s Julianne Hoekzema finished the race first in the college division and second place overall, according to a release. She finished more than a minute before the runner-up in the college division.

The Norse will return to Dayton at 10 a.m. Sept. 8 to co-host the Queen City Invitational in West Chester, Ohio.
