THE GOOD

A researcher was frustrated to find that a compound had killed her cancerous test cells, until she realized that it had killed cancerous cells. This chemical may result in a new cancer treatment, MSNBC.com reported Feb. 4, but would not have even been looked at otherwise.

THE BAD

Someone has created a fake MySpace profile for Shawn Hornbeck, who according to police was kidnapped and held for four years in a St. Louis apartment. The reason? To get girls, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported. The creator’s identity is not publicly known.

THE WEIRD

A pediatrician denied one of his young patients treatment because the child’s parents had tattoos, which conflicted with his Christian religious beliefs, kget.com reported Feb. 14. The child had an ear infection, but because the parents didn’t fit the “appearance” standards, the pediatrician denied the child treatment.
