NEWSPAPER WEB SITE LINKS USERS TO PORN
The Web site of the Lake Wales News had been sending unsuspecting users to a sex site instead of blogs, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported Feb. 17. The links had been active for more than a week before the newspaper fixed the problem.
STUDENTS GIVE BLOOD TO GET BEER
University students in Minnesota are donating blood for booze, the Minnesota Daily reported Feb. 17. For donating a pint of blood, students are paid up to $50, which they then spend on pints at the local bar. They also become far more intoxicated more easily because of their thinned-out blood. Doctors, however, warn against the practice, as do some students, one of whom said she’d blacked out after three drinks.
MAN CATCHES SHARK WITH BARE HANDS AFTER CHUGGING VODKA
An inebriated Australian man wrestled with a four-foot-long shark after drinking a bottle of vodka, The Sunday Telegraph reported Feb. 16. The man admitted later on that he felt like an “idiot” for doing it, blaming the vodka for his tomfoolery.
ART WORK STOLEN, THEN RECOVERED, THEN THROWN OUT
Police in La Selva Beach, Calif., managed to recover a sculpture that had been stolen several months before, the Monterrey Times-Dispatch reported Feb. 15. Unfortunately, police tossed the artwork out with the garbage by mistake. Police said that it is probably buried in one of the trash mounds, and don’t believe they can recover it.
PEANUT BUTTER PUTS PEOPLE IN HOSPITAL
Almost 300 people have contracted salmonella, 20 percent of whom have been hospitalized, after eating Peter Pan or Great Value peanut butter, CNN reported Feb. 14. Consumers have been warned to return any peanut butter product that has a product code beginning with “2111.”
