The good, the bad, and the just plain weird

By the numbers: The lottery $254 million, the tenth largest lottery jackpot ever won on a single ticket in the world, was the sum 84-year-old James Wilson won off his five-dollar ticket Jan. 24, 2007. 175,711,536 to one are the odds for the Ohio Mega Millions lottery game jackpot. 40 to one are the odds that a player will win any prize in the Mega Millions game.

The good Thanks to working smoke detectors and trained firefighters, 15 people escaped a blaze that engulfed a three-story North Avondale apartment complex, WCPO.com reported Jan. 30. The fire, which started Monday around 11:30 p.m., caused approximately $50,000 worth of damage. No injuries were reported.

The bad Thieves stole from an 18-year-old cancer patient’s home while he was in the hospital for treatment, an ABC affiliate in Boston reported Jan. 25. Police believe the robbers knew the patient and his sister would be gone at the time. The thieves made off with an Xbox 360 and $1,000 worth of games and DVDs.

The weird An 18-year-old student covered in grease ran naked through his Westerville, Ohio cafeteria before being arrested by a police officer monitoring the lunch, authorities said. CNN.com reported Jan. 30 that he was tasered once, but continued running until officers tasered him again.
