Ice hockey wins touch matchup against Bishops

The Northern Kentucky University Men’s Hockey Club was victorious in its game Dec. 2.

The men took place in a dogfight against Ohio Wesleyan University and came out on top, 7-5.

“It was a good win that came with a price as a couple guys will have to miss Friday’s game, but it was nice to get a win after the Thanksgiving break,” No. 10 Scott Hicks said.

The Norse’s win was another display of offensive unselfishness. Ron Banczak led the Norse in scoring by finding the net twice. Hicks also contributed to the stats with a goal and two assists, and Nick Koch was able to tack on a goal of his own.

The defense had another solid night as well. Goalie Sam Whisman was able to knock down 22 shot attempts on the way to his seventh straight win. The rest of the defense stepped up its intensity and were able to beat OWU at their own physical playing style.

The Norse will take on Middle Tennessee State Dec. 9 and 10. Both games will be at the Northern Kentucky Ice Center at 10 p.m. “We need to fill the stands and make it a true home ice advantage. They should be two great games,” Hicks said.
