Norse baseball splits doubleheader
Matt Wagers’ three-run homer in game two propelled the Northern Kentucky University baseball team to split a doubleheader against the University of Wisconsin-Parkside April 3.
In game two, the Norse (7-7 overall, 5-5 in the GLVC) struck early and often, scoring all 12 of their runs in the first four innings. NKU helped themselves with six stolen bases to go along with 11 hits and found themselves ahead 5-4 in the second inning.
NKU starting pitcher Paul David Patterson ran into trouble in the first two innings as UW-Parkside touched him up for four runs on six hits. Rick Wood came on in relief and tossed five no-hit innings for his second win of the season.
Matt Jones singled and stole second in the third inning, and Brad Meyer followed with a walk. Then Wagers, a sophomore third baseman, stepped to the plate and hit a shot over the left field wall putting the Norse out in front 8-4.
