Local man plays psychic to stars

Rich Shivener

In the heart of Mainstrasse Village in Covington lies Crystal Magic and Cosmic Source Connection with Hal Fitzpatrick a.k.a. Psychic Hal.

“This is my life. This is what I’m married to,” Hal said of his profession.

Hal has performed readings for well-known celebrities, including Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson, Madonna, Sting and Janet Jackson.

He briefly studied law enforcement at the University of Kentucky, then spent 17 years in the military. He was a part of the U.S. Army Special Forces, traveling to various parts of the world. Hal picked up his first deck of tarot cards while he was enlisted in the army as a way to ease his boredom.

“I started to scare (my peers) in boot camp because I was so good at it,” Hal said.

Soon after his military service, he gave up tarot cards and didn’t pick them up until 1992.

When psychic hotlines where popular in the early ’90s, Hal amazed the psychics by having the abilities to predict their future. “I could even tell them what kind of underwear they were wearing,” Hal said.

One thing led to another. Hal was contracted his own psychic line for a short amount of time. He traveled around to festivals, newspapers, bars, flea markets, radio and television shows performing his psychic abilities. Eventually, he settled down in Covington and opened up shop.

Psychic Hal has become somewhat of a local celebrity. He has conducted paranormal investigations at local places such as Eden Park, Bobbie Mackie’s Music Hall and the Purple People Bridge.

Besides tarot reading, Hal performs other psychic techniques such as past life regression, hypnosis, clairvoyance and healing. Hal is also willing to travel to perform readings and do private parties. Although he is passionate about psychics, Hal plans on opening his own oxygen bar and a lingerie company. “I want to do it all,” Hal said. “Why stop at one?”
