The Northern Kentucky University men’s tennis team continued it strong season over the weekend, as they defeated conference foes Quincy and UM-St. Louis.

The team’s record now stands at 11-3 for the season.

Two of the three losses for the Norse have come against NCAA Division I opponents, UNC-Asheville and Xavier.

The men took care of Quincy with relative ease in the first match Saturday, defeating the Hawks, 9-0.

Amine Benjelloun led the way for the Norse, knocking off Quincy’s Dave Fuhrig, 6-2, 6-0.

Teddy Walkup and Marek Pawelec led the doubles teams, finishing off Quincy’s Doug Sheffer and Trent Terwelp, 8-0.

The Norse didn’t have too much trouble with University of Missouri-St. Louis, winning by a score of 5-1.

In singles play, Billy Hopkins dominated Max Bugner, 6-0, 6-0.

Hopkins and Benjelloun teamed up in doubles play to take down Matt Vaulkhard and Mike Schaaf 8-6.

Benjelloun’s singles record now stands at 6-4, while Hopkins runs his record to 5-3.

The Norse have four games remaining on their regular season schedule.

They take on GLVC opponents, University of Southern Indiana and Bellarmine this weekend at home, before concluding their season against Division I opponents, Morehead St. and Cedarville college, on April 20.

The Norse will then make their way into the GLVC tournament, hoping to advance to the NCAA tournament.
