Freshman pitcher Krystal Lewallen hurled a perfect game Sunday afternoon as the Northern Kentucky University softball team defeated Kentucky Wesleyan College, 8-0, to complete a doubleheader sweep at the Frank Ignatius Grein Softball Field.
Lewallen, a graduate of South Oldham High School, recorded 12 strikeouts as NKU won its ninth consecutive game. The Norse improved to 22-9 overall, 11-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
In three starts this past week, Lewallen posted a 3-0 record with 34 strikeouts and a 0.37 earned run average. She is now 11-4 this season with a 0.60 ERA and a team-leading 120 strikeouts.
Crystal Wilson and Kara Lorenz each drove in two runs to lead the NKU offense. Stephanie Leimbach added three hits and scored a pair of runs.
In the opener, NKU pounded out 22 hits en route to a 16-1 win over Kentucky Wesleyan. Angie Lindeman was 3-for-3 with two doubles and five RBI, while teammates Kristin Koors and Heather Brosnan each added two RBI.
NKU will play a non-conference doubleheader at Campbellsville University at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
