Men’s tennis improves record

The Northern Kentucky University men’s tennis team is sporting a 7-7 overall record after its 6-3 victory over the University of Indianapolis Tuesday, April 2. The Norse also improved to 4-1 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

NKU won five of its six matches in singles play. Junior Jon Peters defeated Scooter Demare, 6-3, 6-0, sophomore Amine Benjelloun beat Marko Saulovic in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 and sophomore Ted Walkup defeated Mounir Salhi, 6-1, 7-6.

Freshmen Billy Hopkins and Nick Herzog were also singles winners for the Norse. NKU sophomore Chris Robertson was not as lucky, losing to the Greyhounds R. B. Hervey 6-2, 6-4.

As for the doubles’ matches, the Norse went one for three in that category. Peters and freshman Tim Geraci were the only partners who were victorious as they beat their opponents by a score of 8-6.

NKU started out the week losing to Wright State University 9-0 last Monday but rebounded once conference play started up again.

NKU finished up the week on the road defeating Lewis University 9-0 and St. Joseph’s College 6-3.
