INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Michelle Cottrell scored 15 points Saturday night as the Northern Kentucky University women’s basketball team defeated the University of Indianapolis, 56-52, at Nicoson Hall.
Cottrell, who missed six games with a stress fracture in her right foot, gave NKU a 53-52 lead with 1:52 remaining by making a layup while being fouled and converting the free throw.Suzie Smith hit a pair of free throws with 1:10 left to give the Norse a 55-52 lead.
Amy Mobley converted a free throw with six seconds remaining to give the Norse a 56-52 advantage.
Dana Schubeler added 12 points and 10 rebounds for NKU, which improved to 18-4 overall, 14-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
The Norse are ranked No. 10 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll.
Cottrell needs just five points to reach the 2,000-point plateau. She is NKU’s all-time leading scorer with 1,995 points.
