Norse Code Radio’s music festival, “Live at the Loch,” is currently accepting applications to perform at their next show in April. NKU musicians and bands of any genre are invited to play their own music in front of a live audience.
“It’s a great environment because people from all over who you don’t really know, who make music, can come together and share it with everybody,” Noah Wheelock, a past performer, said. “It’s a good way to build a community of different musicians on campus and people who are off campus, too.”
Wheelock, an English secondary education major, played by himself last fall on an electric guitar. Wheelock typically writes his own folksy songs, taking the event as an opportunity to promote his music. As the event is independent of SOTA, all majors are welcome, giving more musicians a platform to perform.
Joseph Gallucci, president of Norse Code Radio, organizes the semesterly show. Typically held in the amphitheatre near Loch Norse, the concert was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic but was revived in spring 2025.
“This was the outlet that [musicians] had to perform their music because they wouldn’t have it otherwise,” Gallucci said. “It’s an opportunity of campus life outside of campus.”
Reid Bennett, a music education major, performed with his band, Maintenance Bay, last semester. They brought their own original rock songs to the stage.
“It just created a huge atmosphere to our sound that we normally can’t get in most venues, which have a low ceiling and all of that,” Bennett said. “The people that were there were definitely very into local music, and we love playing to those types of people. But it was also really cool, because we like to reach broader audiences.”
NKU musicians have until March 6 to apply through a Google form. If applying as a band, at least one member must be a current NKU student. “Live at the Loch” is set to take place on April 17.
