US News and World Report ranks NKU’s master’s program third in the state

April 19, 2022

A Northern Kentucky University master’s program has moved up in the ranks of the annual U.S. News and World Report list

The NKU Public Administration master’s program was ranked third in the state and 157th nationally, moving up 10 spots from the 2021 report. The ranking was determined by 270 assessments scores from deans, directors and department chairs given in early 2022 and fall 2021, according to U.S. News and World and NKU.

Dr. Julie Olberding, NKU Master of Public Administration director and professor, said there have been “some intentional changes” in the program “to improve accessibility, quality, and outcomes.” Olberding said the program has increased efforts in faculty recruiting, program diversity and relationships with local governments and nonprofits.

NKU is tied with a dozen other institutions that offer an MPA. At the top of the list for MPA programs is Indiana University-Bloomington.

The report comes after MPA professor Dr. Shamima Ahmed was selected for a second Fulbright Specialist appointment. The project includes training and educational activities within the public administration field between the United States and Tajikistan.
