NKU men’s soccer fell short of earning their first win of the season, suffering a 1-0 shutout loss to Milwaukee in their Horizon League home opener.
The Norse struggled to gain any offensive momentum in the first half, attempting just three shots to Milwaukee’s seven.
Milwaukee nearly broke through in the 44th minute with the first shot on goal of the match, but NKU goalkeeper Landon Barth made the save to send the match scoreless into halftime.
After being denied before halftime, the Panthers wasted no time finding the back of the net.
In the 47th minute, Milwaukee’s Roy Nozawa broke the scoreless tie to take the 1-0 lead that they held for the rest of the match.
NKU’s offensive pressure increased as they tried to equalize, holding a nine-to-five advantage in shots and earning four corner kicks in the second half. Steven Boaghe Braniste, Jabari Rasheed, and Ibrahim Piracha all recorded a shot on goal for the Norse, but the Panthers’ defense kept them off the scoreboard.
Carlos Mercé led the Norse in shots with three, while Barth finished with three saves.
NKU falls to 0-5-1 overall, and 0-2 in Horizon League play.
