The Norse six game win streak was broken Friday night by IUPUI Jaguars 83-77. The Norse are now 8-2 in Horizon League play and 18-5 on the season. The Jaguars advance 6-4 in conference play and 14-9 on the season.
Junior forward Dantez Walton and junior guard Tyler Sharpe led the Norse with 20 points a piece. Walton added 7 rebounds and 3 assists, while Sharpe makes 4-of-7 from three and adds 5 rebounds. Senior forward Drew McDonald had 14 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists.
The Norse started off strong during the first half of the game scoring 6-of-9 from the floor and had a 14-9 lead by the first media timeout. The Norse continued to build their lead up to 25-15 at the 10:32 mark.
In the last 10 minutes of the half things started to go downhill for the Norse. The Jaguars outscored the Norse 28-9 giving the Jaguars a 43-34 lead over the Norse to end the half.
The second half of the game had the Jaguars increasing their lead up to 51-42 early on before the Norse went on an 8-0 scoring run to bring the score up to 51-50. At the 10:22 mark, McDonald’s jumper tied the game 58-58.
With 4:10 to go the Jaguars took a nine point lead with a score of 75-66. The Norse fought back getting within four points of the Jaguars twice but that was as close as they got as the game finished 83-77.
Overall the Norse shot 27-of-53 (50.9 percent) from the field. They also earned 40 points in the paint and 12 fast break points. The Norse still sit atop the Horizon League standings with the loss.
The Norse continue their Horizon League play away on Feb 3, against UIC. The game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. (ET) and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
