After losing their last two games by two possessions, the NKU women’s basketball took a huge step back on Friday night against IUPUI. The Norse fell to the Jaguars 71-35 in BB&T Arena, sending NKU to 4-14 and 2-5 in Horizon League play.
The Jaguars improve to 14-4 and 6-1 in Horizon League play. They remained tied for first play in the conference with Green Bay and Wright State.
Danielle Lawrence scored 19 points and grabbed four rebounds. Tamya Smith scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds and Macee Williams scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
No NKU players finished in double figure scoring. Molly Glick and Kailey Coffey scored seven points while Jazmyne Geist scored six.
It was ugly from the start for the Norse, who scored just four points in the fourth quarter while allowing the Jaguars to score 18. The Norse recovered a little in the second quarter, but shot just 23 percent in the first half while the Jaguars shot 57 percent.
IUPUI held a 37-17 lead at halftime.
Things didn’t get better in the third quarter, as the Norse scored just two points in the quarter while IUPUI scored 19 and extended their lead to 37. The Norse would outscore the Jaguars 16-15 in the fourth quarter, but it wouldn’t be nearly enough to get back in the game.
