MILWAUKEE, Wis. — After finishing regulation and 20 minutes of overtime scoreless, Northern Kentucky and Oakland needed penalty kicks to decide Thursday’s Horizon League semifinal.
In the end, the Golden Grizzlies scored on all four attempts from the spot and defeated NKU 4-1 in penalties.
The loss ends the season for the Norse at 11-5-2.
Kelsey Laumann scored the only penalty for the Norse.
Brooke Schocker had an outstanding performance, making six saves to keep the clean sheet through 110 minutes.
Oakland outshot NKU 17-13, including 6-4 in shots on goal. The Norse had 4 of its 13 shots in the second overtime period as they tried to get the game-winner and avoid penalties.
Jessica Frey and Macy Hamblin each had five shots for the Norse.
Oakland advanced to play Wright State after the Raiders sent the hosts packing after defeating Milwaukee in penalties in the nightcap.
