ROCHESTER, Mich. — After winning its first five Horizon League games in school history, the NKU women’s soccer team dropped its second straight Wednesday.
Alice Palmer’s 72nd-minute goal was all Oakland needed to defeat NKU 1-0.
Oakland (5-5-6, 4-1-2 in Horizon) outshot NKU 12-4, including blanking the Norse in shots on goal 4-0.
Joan Sieja and Nessa Ogbonna picked up assists on the Palmer goal, which pulls Oakland within a point of NKU (9-5, 5-2) in the Horizon League standings.
Macy Hamblin led NKU with two shots. Kelsey Laumann and Morgan Shafer each had a shot. Brooke Schocker recorded three saves for the Norse.
The Norse trail first place Milwaukee by six points in the standings. NKU will play Milwaukee 8 p.m. Saturday in Wisconsin. NKU is five points clear of fifth place. A finish in the top four would guarantee NKU a home quarterfinal match in the Horizon League tournament.
NKU has just one regular season match remaining after Saturday. The Norse host Green Bay 7 p.m. Oct. 30 at NKU Soccer Stadium.
