DETROIT, Mich. – Three unanswered goals Saturday propelled the women’s soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Detroit.
NKU is now 7-3 overall and 3-0 in the Horizon League.
After allowing a fifth-minute goal from Detroit’s Anna Mindling, NKU would equalize in the 22nd minute on Hanna Pateryn’s first goal of the season. Jessica Frey had the assist, and it was 1-1.
In the second half, NKU would take the lead for good in the 60th minute. Macy Hamblin scored her fourth of the season from 18 yards away. Frey picked up her second assist.
The Norse iced the game away with a 68th-minute goal from Katelyn Newton. She scored through traffic from the top of the box to give NKU a 3-1 lead.
NKU outshot Detroit 17-12, including 6-4 in shots on goal. Norse keeper Brooke Schocker went the distance, making three saves.
Hamblin led NKU with four shots, followed by Frey with three.
The women travel to Valparaiso 8 p.m. Friday. Valpo won the 2014 Horizon League tournament.
