The Northerner reached out to Jackson (Andy) Meeks, Director of Business Operations and Auxiliary Services, over email to answer all of your questions about parking at NKU this semester.
Why weren’t parking rates reduced this year since most students are not on campus?
Jackson Meeks: “We have taken many steps to ensure the cost of an NKU education reflects our current environment, and the pandemic and resulting economic impact influenced our decisions for the 2020-21 academic year, including freezing our undergraduate tuition rates and parking rates. We have also waived online fees for classes for the Fall 2020 semester. To preserve our workforce, we implemented salary cuts and furloughs from the top down. NKU’s net tuition price remains among the lowest in the state and region.”
What parking pass should a student get if they only must be on campus once a week?
JM: “Students should review the options and purchase a parking pass that is best fits [sic] their schedule and amount of time they will be on campus.”
What parking passes are available for students?
JM: “Students have several options for parking as follows:
Annual passes for students are available for $256
Semester passes for students are available for $150
Students may attend class without purchasing a standard parking pass and you can always use the “Pay As You Go” method. Any of the three garages can be used with hourly/daily rate for the days on campus.
Daily rates are $9.25, so if you feel that you will be on campus fewer than 15 times this semester, it is better to do the daily rate
Hourly rates are $2.75, so if you feel that you will be on campus fewer than 3 ½ hours per day and 15 times this semester, it is better to do the hourly rate”
What guidance does NKU Parking offer for social distancing in parking lots? How can people stay safely apart?
JM: “NKU requires facial coverings when on campus, even outside. Students should be wearing their facial covering and social distance in parking lots. Please reference the NKU COVID-19 web-page for additional health and safety information.”
