Softball Winter Academy dates announced
The Northern Kentucky University Softball Team will be hosting its three-week Fall Academy for grades 4-thru-12 Jan. 13, 20 and 27 at Regents Hall.
NKU coaches and players will teach the students in all areas of fastpitch softball.
The academy will have five different sessions each week that are one-hour sessions. There will be two separate Hitting Academies that will take place each Sunday from 10 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 2 p.m. The academies will concentrate on hitting, bunting and base running skills.
The Pitching Academy will be from 11 a.m. to noon and will be broken into three levels: beginning, intermediate and advanced. It will teach the fundamentals of pitching, developmental drills, and change-up and drop-ball instruction.
The only requirement for the Pitching Academy is that the pitchers bring their own catchers.
From 2 to 3 p.m. the Defense and Catching Academy will take place. The Defense Academy will assist with the fielding and throwing fundamentals, as the Catching Academy will teach throwing, blocking, covering bunts, pop ups and throwing out base runners.
The cost of a one-hour academy is $60 dollars, covering all three Sundays.
For more information on the academies, contact the NKU softball office at (859) 572-5939.
